Early Detection and Education: Building Awareness for the Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Parepare City

Program Summary:

This program aims to enhance awareness, participation, and community capacity in detecting and preventing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly in Barombong Sub-district, Parepare City. Through collaboration between academic teams from the Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University, and the Parepare Public Health Center (Puskesmas), this initiative addresses core issues such as low health literacy, limited access to promotive and preventive services, and lack of trained community health workers.

• Low community awareness of NCD risk factors.

• Limited promotive and preventive activities at the health center.

• Minimal community engagement in early detection efforts.

• Uneven access to health services, especially in densely populated and peripheral areas.

Solutions and Key Activities:

• Health Education Campaigns: Utilizing printed and digital media, alongside direct community-based outreach.

• NCD Early Detection Training: Targeted at local health workers and community health volunteers (cadres).

• Mobile Health Services: To reach areas with limited healthcare access.

• Strengthening Posyandu (Integrated Health Posts): As central hubs for NCD education and screening in the community.

• Scientific publication in an ISSN-registered journal (public health or health promotion field).

• Popular articles published in local/regional media.

• Educational video content on NCDs (for ongoing community awareness efforts).

• Visual educational posters for public spaces and Posyandu centers.
