Supported by its tropical climate and geographical location between two continents (Asia and Australia), the Indonesian archipelago is extremely rich in biodiversity. With a land area of ​​only 1.3% of the Earth’s land area, Indonesia is among the world’s 17 megadiverse countries. For example, 10% of the world’s flowering plant species are found in Indonesia, and more than half of these are endemic. Approximately 12% of the world’s mammals, 16 reptile species, and 17% of the world’s bird species are found in Indonesia. However, many of these species, particularly plants and insects, have not been taxonomically described.
