Propagation of Local Arbuscular Mycorrhizae for the Rehabilitation of Post Nickel Mining Land

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of compost from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) and mycorrhizal
vesicular-arbuscular (MVA) in improving soil fertility of nickel post-mining soil.

This presents the results of identifying the types and quantities of mycorrhizal vesicular-arbuscular (MVA) fungi found in the concession area of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk in Sorowako (post-mining and original forest). These findings serve as the basis for the mass production and propagation of local MVA, which can support post-mining land reclamation efforts, particularly by enhancing plant growth, improving the chemical, physical, and biological properties of post-nickel mining soil in the PT Vale Indonesia Tbk area.

In the surveyed area, four genera of endomycorrhizae were identified: Gigaspora, Acaulospora, Scutellospora, and Glomus, found in various tree rhizospheres growing in post-mining areas, natural forests, and nurseries.

The mass production of MVA will support the reclamation of post-nickel mining land in PTVI, given the role of MVA in improving marginal soil properties, particularly by enhancing soil structure, increasing water and nutrient absorption, improving fertilizer use efficiency, and ensuring the availability of essential nutrients for plants.
