Disseminating Research Topic in Health Promotion: Strengthening Academic Collaboration for Global Health and Sustainable Development

On 24 June 2025, the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, organised an online academic activity titled “Disseminating Research Topic in Health Promotion.” The event was conducted through the Zoom platform as part of an initiative to introduce and share current research topics related to health promotion within the Malaysian context. This activity aimed to broaden students’ academic perspectives and encourage international academic collaboration in the field of public health and nursing research.

The session featured Prof. Noor Azah Abdul Aziz, a distinguished academic from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and one of the collaborators in the Enhancement Healthy Aging research network. As the keynote speaker, Prof. Noor Azah shared her expertise and experience in researching health promotion strategies, particularly those related to healthy aging, community health engagement, and preventive healthcare approaches. Her presentation highlighted the importance of research-driven health promotion initiatives that address both individual and community well-being.

Approximately 20 participants, consisting of undergraduate and master’s nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, attended the session. The interactive format of the online meeting allowed participants to actively engage in discussions, ask questions, and gain insights into how research topics can be developed, implemented, and translated into practical health promotion programs. Through this knowledge-sharing platform, students were encouraged to explore interdisciplinary perspectives and consider international research collaborations in their future academic work.

The activity also emphasized the importance of strengthening research capacity among students and young researchers. By introducing research themes from Malaysia, the event provided participants with a comparative understanding of health promotion strategies in different cultural and healthcare settings. This exposure is expected to inspire students to develop innovative research ideas that address real-world health challenges, particularly in community and public health nursing.

In addition to fostering academic exchange, the activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, it supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting knowledge and research related to preventive health strategies and healthy aging. Health promotion research plays a crucial role in improving population health outcomes, preventing diseases, and enhancing quality of life across communities.

Second, the event contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students with access to international academic expertise and learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Through this dissemination activity, participants were able to expand their understanding of global health research trends and strengthen their academic competencies in research and evidence-based practice.

Third, the program highlights the significance of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it represents a collaborative effort between Hasanuddin University and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Such academic partnerships are essential for advancing research, sharing knowledge, and building networks that contribute to sustainable global health development.

Overall, the “Disseminating Research Topic in Health Promotion” session served as an important academic platform for strengthening international collaboration, enhancing students’ research awareness, and promoting the role of health promotion research in achieving sustainable development goals. Through continued collaboration and knowledge exchange, academic institutions can play a pivotal role in addressing global health challenges and fostering the next generation of health researchers and professionals.
