Makassar, June 30, 2025 — The Peace, Conflict and Democracy Research Group (TRG) held a final coordination meeting on Wednesday, June 30, 2025, to solidify all aspects of field preparation before the team begins on-site data collection. This meeting marked the last step in a series of structured planning sessions to ensure the research process runs effectively and smoothly on the ground.
The meeting resulted in three key decisions:
- Selection of Research Sampling Locations
The team finalized four sub-districts as primary research sites: Tallo, Tamalanrea Jaya, Bara-Baraya, and Tamalate. These areas were selected based on conflict mapping conducted by the Center for Peace, Conflict, and Democracy (CPCD) in 2024, which identified them as regions with frequent and large-scale group conflicts. These sites offer critical insights into community-level conflict dynamics. - Informant Criteria
The research will focus on interviewing individuals who are actively involved in conflict resolution efforts or have substantial knowledge about conflict management in their communities. Expected informants include neighborhood leaders (RT/RW), community figures, and other key local actors. Their perspectives are considered vital to understanding how local conflicts are addressed and resolved. - Division of Fieldwork Responsibilities
To optimize the efficiency of the data collection process, the TRG team agreed to divide tasks and field locations among researchers. This division of labor will ensure better coverage of selected areas and streamline the overall research workflow.
With these final arrangements in place, the TRG is ready to begin fieldwork. The team remains committed to producing impactful research that explores the complexities of intergroup conflict and the role of local actors in fostering peace and resilience at the grassroots level.
