Strengthening Institutional Visibility through Thematic Research Group (TRG) Website Development at Universitas Hasanuddin

Makassar – In an increasingly competitive global academic landscape, universities are required to continuously enhance their visibility, research impact, and collaborative networks. Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) has taken a strategic step in this direction by organizing a capacity-building activity focused on optimizing the role of Thematic Research Groups (TRGs) through effective website development. This initiative, conducted at Aula LPMPP Universitas Hasanuddin, aimed to provide structured assistance and guidance in managing and improving TRG digital platforms.

The primary objective of this activity was to deliver targeted mentoring related to TRG website development, ensuring that each research group is able to present its academic outputs, innovations, and collaborations in a professional and accessible manner. A well-managed TRG website is not only a medium for disseminating research findings but also a strategic tool to strengthen institutional reputation at both national and international levels.

The program was attended by 50 participants, consisting of lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff affiliated with various TRGs across UNHAS. The activity was successfully held on 11 March 2026, bringing together stakeholders who play a vital role in research development and knowledge dissemination. Through this initiative, participants were equipped with practical knowledge on website content structuring, user-friendly interface design, and strategies for maintaining updated and credible information.

The implementation of this activity reflects a strong alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By enhancing digital literacy and research dissemination, this initiative contributes to SDG 4 through improving access to quality knowledge and educational resources. Furthermore, strengthening research visibility can indirectly support SDG 1 by fostering innovation and evidence-based solutions that address socio-economic challenges. Additionally, the collaborative nature of TRGs supports SDG 17 by encouraging partnerships among researchers, institutions, and global networks.

Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in interactive discussions, hands-on practice, and direct mentoring. Facilitators provided step-by-step guidance on how to develop structured website content, including research profiles, publications, ongoing projects, and collaboration opportunities. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of consistency, data accuracy, and visual appeal in creating a professional digital presence.

The activity not only improved participants’ technical skills but also strengthened their understanding of the strategic role of digital platforms in academic reputation building. By optimizing TRG websites, UNHAS is positioning itself as a forward-thinking institution that values transparency, accessibility, and innovation in research communication.

In conclusion, this mentoring program represents a significant effort in advancing institutional excellence through digital transformation. By integrating capacity building, collaboration, and strategic communication, the initiative contributes meaningfully to the achievement of SDGs 1, 4, and 17, while reinforcing UNHAS’s commitment to becoming a globally recognized center of research and innovation.
