
Guest Lecture by Prof. Radianta Triatmadja: “The Role of Dimensional Analysis in Hydraulic Research and Modeling”
The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin, recently hosted a distinguished guest lecture featuring Prof. Radianta Triatmadja, a renowned expert in Hydraulic Engineering. The event took place at the Gowa Campus, in the main lecture hall of the Civil Engineering Department, and was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students engaged in research, along with faculty members from various civil engineering disciplines.
Prof. Radianta delivered an insightful lecture titled “Dimensional Analysis as a Fundamental Tool in Hydraulic Research and Modeling.” His presentation emphasized the importance of dimensional analysis in simplifying complex problems in fluid mechanics and hydraulic engineering, and its critical role in bridging laboratory-scale experiments with real-world field applications.
The lecture covered core concepts of the Buckingham π-theorem, practical applications in physical modeling, and the role of dimensional analysis in validating numerical simulations. Prof. Radianta also shared real-world case studies involving dam design, coastal wave interactions, and urban drainage systems. He introduced the audience to techniques for constructing non-dimensional parameters, reducing model complexity, and enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of engineering research.
This guest lecture provided not only a deeper technical understanding for students and faculty, but also served as a platform for academic discourse on interdisciplinary approaches in civil engineering research.
