This research aims to identify and analyze the non-confrontational adaptation strategies used by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the face of urban spatial changes in South Sulawesi, particularly in Makassar City, Maros Regency, and Gowa Regency. Using a mixed method approach with a sequential exploratory design, this research will explore how MSMEs develop resilience without resistance through risk-averse adaptation strategies. The long-term target is to produce a conceptual model of MSME resilience that can be applied in the context of developing countries, as well as generate new knowledge about non-market strategies in the context of spatial change.
The research method combines a qualitative approach using grounded theory and a quantitative approach through structural equation modeling (SEM) to generate a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of MSME adaptation. The research will be conducted over 12 months, involving a minimum of 90 MSMEs as qualitative phase participants and 150-200 MSMEs as survey respondents. Targeted outputs include: (1) one scientific article in a reputable international journal at least Q2 indexed by Scopus as a mandatory output, and (2) one article in the proceedings of an international conference organized by LPPM Universitas Hasanuddin as an additional output. This research supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDGs number 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
