Malili. The management of PT. Pongkeru Mineral Utama (POMU), along with the TRG-Concern Research Team from Hasanuddin University (Unhas), successfully disseminated the results of a study titled “Social Mapping: A Baseline Study” for the Pongkeru Block in East Luwu Regency. The dynamic event took place at Wisma Trans Puncak Indah, Malili, East Luwu, South Sulawesi, on Saturday (May 23, 2026).
The event was attended by representatives of the East Luwu Regency Government’s Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), the Malili Sub-district Head, the Wasuponda Sub-district Head, and representatives of community leaders, village heads, and the Village Consultative Body (BPD) within PT POMU’s work area. In his presentation, Dr. Sawedi Muhammad, M.Sc., led the Unhas team, consisting of Suryanto Arifin, Hasriashari Rahim, Afrianto, Andi Nurlela, and Muhammad Ayub, to examine the real social conditions of the Pongkeru Block community.
Following the presentation, the forum became heated during the discussion session. Community representatives took advantage of this opportunity to critically question the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concept and community empowerment strategies the company will implement upon its official launch. Several crucial points raised by residents to refine the research findings included environmental sustainability, local workforce absorption, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), and the involvement of local entrepreneurs.
Responding to the residents’ enthusiasm, PT POMU’s Director of Human Resources, Ittong Sulle, S.T., M.T., immediately presented the company’s profile and vision for future community empowerment. Also present were internal company representatives, including Ayyub, Head of Mining Engineering (KTT), and Najamuddin, S.An., Manager of External & CSR at PT POMU.
Through this forum, Ittong Sulle, as Director of Human Resources, directly educated residents about PT POMU’s profile. He also provided clarity on the company’s commitments and plans for future community empowerment programs.
Despite the heated discussion, the community welcomed PT POMU’s operational plans positively. The company, which is a joint venture between PT Antam, SCI, and the East Luwu Regional Government, is scheduled to manage mining activities in the former PT Vale land block which includes the Pongkeru, Laskap Malili, and Balambano Wasuponda areas.
