The Science Techno Park (STP) Team of Hasanuddin University, Makassar, visited a village across Lake Towuti, Towuti District, East Luwu to see the potential for pepper in the village on Tuesday (07/12/2021).
The STP Unhas Team consisted of Prof. drg. Mansjur Nasir, Ph.D., Dr. Ir. Mahyuddin, Dr. Sawedi Muhammad, Dr. Mansyur Radjab, M.Sc., Suryanto, S.Sos., M.Sc., Ir. Bahrun, Sumiati, SP., MM., and Afrianto, SE. MM.
The group departed from the Luwu Timur Regent’s Official Residence at around 09:00 WITA, accompanied by the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Luwu Timur Regional Secretariat, Senfry Oktovianus, several OPD Heads and Malili Customs and Excise departed for the Timampu pier to cross Lake Towuti using the KMP Pangkilang Ship.
At around 11.45 WITA the group arrived at the Tokalimbo Village Pier, after the break, the group immediately left for the pepper plantation owned by the Head of Bantilang Village, Ikbal.
There was something interesting at this location, namely when Prof. drg. Mansjur Nasir, Ph.D. chatted with the Head of Bantilang Village. Both of them spoke not in Indonesian or local languages, but in Japanese, and this rare moment was captured by several Heads of Departments.
After reviewing the Pepper plantation of the Head of Bantilang Village, the group continued their journey to see the pepper plantation owned by H. Baharuddin in Rante Angin Village. Here, the group from the STP Unhas Team also chatted and asked several things related to the pepper plantation owned by H. Baharuddin.
Among them, the area of land, the number of pepper trees, the amount of fertilizer used and the number of workers. “My land area is around 30 hectares with approximately 40,000 trees. As for workers, as of today there are 90 people. Meanwhile, for fertilizer, I use 10,000 sacks (30 kg) for 2 months,” said H. Baharuddin when asked for information by the Unhas STP Team.
Confirmed after conducting a pepper review, Prof. Drg. Mansjur Nasir, Ph.D. revealed that the purpose of today’s visit was to create an activity called an innovation village. So, he continued, it is in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) used by all of Indonesia.
“Unhas in this case Science Techno Park (STP), wants to contribute according to the instructions of the former Deputy Regent of East Luwu, Saldy Mansyur that the best to be developed is Pepper in East Luwu Regency. That is why today we and our friends visited the Village across the lake (Bantilang, Loeha and Rante Angin) to collect some data related to pepper cultivation,” added Prof. Mansjur.
Furthermore, Prof. Drg. Mansjur Nasir, Ph.D. said that, after all the data from the pepper land owners, sub-districts, PT. Vale and the Agriculture Service were collected, his party would then combine all the data.
“After the data is combined, the Director of Science Techno Park (STP) Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. dr. A. Wardihan Sinrang, MS., Sp.And. will later present it to the Ministry of Trade, and hopefully with that we can be helped, where the assistance will later be for the community in East Luwu.
