This community service initiative, conducted by a team of academics from Universitas Hasanuddin, focuses on the “Revitalization of Teacher Skills in Writing Scientific Papers through a Jigsaw Approach Supported by Audiovisual Media”. The program was implemented at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Parepare, involving 30 teachers as active participants. This intervention was designed to address the low capacity of educators in producing publishable academic works, which is a critical component for their professional development and career advancement.
The program execution was structured into three primary developmental phases. The initial phase involved strategic discussions with school partners to align training materials with the specific needs of the teachers. In the second phase, participants received comprehensive training on scientific writing using the Jigsaw-AV (Audiovisual) method. This pedagogical approach emphasizes collaborative learning by dividing participants into “expert groups” and “home groups,” where they exchange insights on academic structures facilitated by research-based video demonstrations. The final stage focused on intensive mentoring for drafting scientific manuscripts and navigating the technical requirements for submission to accredited national journals.
Analytical results indicate a significant positive impact on participant competence. Prior to the training, approximately 65% of the teachers reported substantial difficulties in academic writing. However, the collaborative model and interactive audiovisual media fostered high levels of engagement and accelerated the understanding of scientific technicalities. Evaluative data from pre-tests and post-tests confirmed a marked improvement in the teachers’ mastery of citation techniques and systematic writing structures. The program’s success is further evidenced by its tangible outputs, including a published scientific article in Jurnal DINAMISIA (SINTA 3), a popular article in the Harian Fajar newspaper, and the production of instructional documentation and posters.
This activity aligns directly with SDG 4: Quality Education. By enhancing research literacy and writing proficiency among educators, the program contributes to the improvement of teacher professionalism. Competent teachers who engage in scientific inquiry are better equipped to implement innovative instructional practices, thereby elevating the quality of student learning outcomes and fostering a sustainable academic environment.
Looking forward to 2026, the project team aims to expand the program’s impact by establishing a “learning community” among teachers in Parepare. Future plans include the publication of a formal guidebook titled “Writing Scientifically with the Jigsaw-AV Method” to ensure the long-term sustainability of these academic improvements at the institutional level. The robust collaboration with partners, characterized by the provision of facilities and logistical support, remains a cornerstone of this successful professional transformation.
