In February of 2024, archaeology students from Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) have been involved in research led by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), specifically the Research Center for Environmental, Maritime and Sustainable Cultural Archaeology. The research focuses on the theme “Prehistoric Human Migration: Maritime Networks and Resource Use in Sulawesi and East Indonesia”. This research activity was carried out from February 4 to 29, 2024 at the Topogaro Site, Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
The Unhas archaeology students involved in this research are part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of archaeologists, and other scientists. They joined efforts to understand prehistoric human movements in the Sulawesi region and Eastern Indonesia, with a particular focus on maritime networks and natural resource utilization.
This research is expected to provide new insights into the important role of the Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia region in the history of prehistoric human movements in the maritime region. By utilizing the latest technology and archaeological research methods, the research team seeks to collect archaeological evidence that can support theories about ancient human migration and patterns of natural resource utilization in the past.
