Research Sub-Theme

The research group focuses on understanding and managing aquatic invasive alien species across freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems through integrated, science-based approaches. The group brings together researchers and partners to investigate invasion pathways, distribution patterns, population biology, genetics, ecological and socio-economic impacts, as well as invasion risk under changing environmental conditions. By combining tools such as eDNA, GIS-based mapping, species distribution modeling, and vulnerability analysis, the group aims to strengthen early detection, improve risk assessment, and support effective management. Its goal is to translate research into practical solutions by informing prevention, biosecurity, control strategies, and policy decisions that protect biodiversity, sustain ecosystem functions, and reduce risks to fisheries, aquaculture, and local livelihoods.
