Aquatic Invasive Alien Species Research Group (INVAQUATIC)

Our research group specializes in management of invasive alien species in freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems. We integrate ecology, genetics, and environmental monitoring to understand invasion processes and their impacts, and to develop science-based strategies for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience. Our group focuses on freshwater, coastal, and marine environments that are increasingly threatened by biological invasions driven by global trade, climate change, and human activities.

Through collaboration with universities, government agencies, and international partners, INVAQUATIC contributes to biodiversity conservation, sustainable fisheries, and ecosystem resilience. Our research outputs are designed to inform policy, strengthen biosecurity frameworks, and enhance public awareness of aquatic invasive species and their risks.

AIM

To advance scientific knowledge and practical solutions for the detection, assessment, and management of aquatic invasive alien species in order to protect biodiversity, sustain ecosystem functions, and support evidence-based environmental policy.

MISSION

  • To conduct multidisciplinary research on the ecology, genetics, distribution, and impacts of aquatic invasive alien species.
  • To develop early detection, monitoring, and risk assessment tools for aquatic biological invasions.
  • To provide scientific evidence that supports policy, biosecurity, and ecosystem management decisions.
