Welcome to Geriatric Dentistry Research Group
Aging is a natural biological phenomenon that affects all body systems, including the oral cavity. As we age, physiological changes occur, such as decreased saliva production, tooth decay, and declining cognitive and motor function. These changes have a negative impact on oral hygiene and health. Additionally, systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and osteoporosis, which are common in the elderly, increase the risk of periodontal disease and other oral infections. Interdisciplinary studies between the fields of geriatrics and dentistry are crucial for comprehensively understanding the impact of aging on oral health.
Mission
Enhancing Community Understanding and Awareness Improving public knowledge and awareness regarding the vital importance of oral and dental health in the elderly.
Developing Early Screening Methods and Targeted Interventions Creating early detection protocols and appropriate interventions for high-risk elderly populations facing oral health issues.
Encouraging Interdisciplinary Collaboration Fostering synergy between medical professionals, dentists, and healthcare practitioners to address the complex nature of geriatric health issues.
Advancing Technological Innovations Developing innovative solutions such as AI-based monitoring, mobile applications, and smart oral hygiene tools to empower the elderly to maintain their oral health independently.
Aim
- Elaborating on the Impact of the Aging Process on Oral Health
Identifying biological and functional changes in the oral cavity of the elderly and their correlation with systemic diseases. - Designing Integrated Oral Care Strategies for the Elderly
Creating evidence-based intervention models that integrate dentistry and geriatric sciences. - Promoting Technological Innovation in Geriatric Dental Care
Developing teledentistry, artificial intelligence (AI), and diagnostic tools specifically for elderly dental services. - Enhancing Education and Awareness of Geriatric Oral Health
Developing educational modules and community-based prevention campaigns to increase participation and awareness among older adults.
