The Maros-Pangkep karst region in South Sulawesi, home to the world’s oldest cave art, is deteriorating. This study develops a decision tool to manage visitor numbers based on El Niño phases, minimizing thermal stress and preserving this cultural heritage by linking exfoliation rates to environmental and human factors.
Snow cover in Jayawijaya, Papua, is rapidly declining due to climatic factors, threatening ecosystems and local culture. Analyzing data from 2013 to 2022, we found that relative humidity and wind direction significantly impact snow loss. Our model shows a strong correlation (r = 0.81) with observed declines, aiding future conservation efforts.
