The prehistoric cave art in the UNESCO Global Geopark Maros-Pangkep is deteriorating, and it is crucial to assess the extent of this decline. Since our initial monitoring in 2018, we aim to identify which specific areas of the artwork have changed and the significance of these alterations.
To achieve this, we utilize a Blackbox Artificial Intelligence tool that enables users to select areas of interest from images. The AI highlights changes in red compared to the original artwork and calculates the extent of these modifications.
By analyzing these outputs, we can develop a model to quantify the influence of tropical climate factors, such as the El Niño Southern Oscillation, along with weather conditions like temperature, relative humidity, and wind, on the deterioration of the cave art. This approach not only helps us understand the current state of the artwork but also provides valuable insights into the environmental factors contributing to its decline.
