These pests attack cocoa and maize, two essential crops that support food security and livelihoods, causing yield losses of up to 80% in unmanaged conditions. This situation highlights the urgent need for effective and sustainable pest management strategies.

What makes this pest particularly challenging is not only its ability to spread quickly up to 100 km per day but also its biological diversity. Different strains ofΒ S. frugiperdaΒ may behave differently, making control strategies more complex and less predictable.
