This invention relates to a process for producing maize seeds capable of inducing endophytism, comprising the following steps: preparing maize seeds suitable for planting; soaking the maize seeds in a conidial suspension of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana at a concentration of 10¹⁰ conidia/mL; adding 2% (v/v) sucrose to the mixture of fungal suspension and seeds; incubating the seed–suspension mixture for 24 hours; and draining the treated maize seeds until dry and ready for planting. The purpose of this invention is to provide a method for producing maize seeds capable of inducing endophytism. Another objective of this invention is to produce maize seeds containing endophytic microorganisms.

Rice is the primary staple crop in Indonesia and is highly susceptible to attacks from various Plant Pest Organisms (PPOs). Major pests and diseases affecting rice crops often lead to significant yield losses and may even result in complete crop failure. To date, many farmers continue to rely excessively on chemical pesticides, which can induce pest resistance, disrupt ecosystem balance, and pose risks to human health and the environment. This technical manual has been developed as one of the outputs of a collaborative research program between the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University and the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Instrument Standardization, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia (Contract Number: 1216/PL.040/Kontrak/H.1/04/2024). The project focuses on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Future Agriculture: Strengthening Farmers’ Capacity to Support National Food Self-Sufficiency. The activities were conducted across four districts—Pangkep, Maros, Gowa, and Takalar—representing major rice-producing regions in South Sulawesi. This book provides an overview of key plant pest organisms affecting rice crops along with their management strategies, and offers recommendations based on functional biodiversity approaches. The materials presented include the propagation of biological control agents such as Trichoderma spp., consortia of beneficial bacteria as biofertilizers and biopesticides, mass production of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana, and the use of refugia plants as part of ecological engineering to support natural enemies. It is expected that this manual will serve as a practical guide for farmers, extension workers, and relevant stakeholders in implementing sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Through the application of these strategies, rice productivity can be enhanced, agroecosystem balance maintained, and dependency on chemical pesticides reduced. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Instrument Standardization (BSIP), Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, for their support and collaboration, which made the preparation of this technical manual possible. It is hoped that this work will contribute to sustainable agricultural development and support the achievement of national food self-sufficiency.
