Mission

The research group’s mission is to ensure a sufficient supply of quality national animal-based food through the development of competitive and resilient Indonesian beef cattle, thereby achieving the well-being of the community and the nation. To support this vision, other local livestock breeds, including native buffalo, goats, and food horses, are also being simultaneously developed, each with the potential to produce high-quality meat.

Aim

The development aims to increase the productivity and quality of local Indonesian beef, especially polled Bali cattle. Currently, Bali beef production ranges from 80 to 150 kg per head, with meat quality not meeting international meat quality standards with a marbling content of at least 4, despite its very high genetic potential, as stated by international experts, especially Japanese cattle experts. Therefore, development research is directed at identifying the genetic potential of polled Bali cattle, then selecting livestock with superior genetics for meat quality, by conducting conventional and biomoleculer selection using the MAS method; and conducting environmental or feed engineering that is suitable for polled Bali cattle with high beef production and tender meat quality. Apart from developing beef cattle, other local livestock are also being developed, such as native buffalo, goats and food horses.
