FLOATING MOBILE TOILET FOR COASTAL AREAS EQUIPPED WITH A BIOFILTER UTILIZING SHELLFISH SHELLS AND COCONUT FIBER
This invention relates to the application of a mobile toilet that can be relocated as needed. The livelihood activities of coastal communities require them to spend a significant amount of time at sea. Thus, the implementation of a floating mobile toilet supports their economic activities by providing accessible and practical sanitation. The mobile toilet is deployed in the sea using twisted steel wire ropes, which facilitate easy relocation. This innovation is designed with a biofilter system utilizing locally sourced coastal materials, specifically shellfish shells and coconut fiber. The generated waste is processed in a septic tank, which is positioned beneath the toilet structure. The septic system consists of four plastic drums, with two drums functioning under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, integrated with biofilter media. Effectiveness testing of the Floating Mobile Toilet demonstrated a significant reduction in pollutants. After an initial three-hour contact time, pollutant levels decreased as follows: BOD by 74%, COD by 76.92%, and TSS by 70%. After six hours of contact time, further reductions were observed: BOD by 74%, COD by 84.62%, and TSS by 70% compared to the first three-hour period. Based on the BOD, COD, and TSS effectiveness analysis, the results confirm that the biofilter system utilizing shellfish shells is effective in reducing organic pollutants. This innovation presents a sustainable sanitation solution tailored for coastal communities, enhancing both environmental and public health conditions.
