Evaluating Second-Generation Shallot Bulbs from True Seed for Stronger Seed Systems
Activities- Since May 2026 and continuing to the present, a research and field evaluation activity entitled “Evaluation of Second-Generation Shallot Bulb Production from True Seed” has been carried out in Ulu Ere District, Bantaeng. This activity involves 11 participants, including the students Nur Daflistiani Pasmar and A. Saskia Nur Istifha, and is supported by international collaboration with Tomorani Hirano, Ph.D. from the University of Miyazaki and Prof. José Luís Trevizan Chiomento from the University of Passo Fundo. Producing Mini Shallot Bulbs through Plant Density and Paclobutrazol Technology
Activities – From June to December 2025, a research-based agricultural activity entitled “Mini Shallot Bulb Production Using Population Density and Paclobutrazol Application” was carried out at the Experimental Farm, Hasanuddin University. This activity involved 11 participants, including the students Zulhajir and Hasniar, and was supported through international collaboration with Tomorani Hirano, Ph.D. from the University of Miyazaki. The activity was designed to answer an important question in shallot seed technology: how can mini shallot bulbs be produced efficiently and consistently? Mini bulbs are valuable because they can serve as practical planting material. They are easier to handle, store, transport, and plant compared with larger bulbs.

Growing Shallots from True Seed: Building Farmer Knowledge for Better Seedling Technology
Activities – On 30 November 2025, a community-based agricultural learning activity entitled “Shallot Seedling Technology from True Seed” was conducted in Ulu Ere District, Bantaeng. The activity was attended by 20 shallot farmers who participated in a technical and informative session on how to produce shallot seedlings from botanical seed, commonly known as true shallot seed. Shallot is one of the most important horticultural commodities in Indonesia. It is widely used in daily cooking and has strong economic value for farming communities. However, shallot cultivation often depends on seed bulbs, which require large quantities of planting material, are expensive to transport, and may carry diseases

Strengthening Lokana Shallot Seed Systems: From Farmer Knowledge to Certified Planting Material
On 29 November 2025, a farmer capacity-building activity entitled “Lokana Shallot Seed Production for Quality Planting Material” was conducted in Sinoa District, Bantaeng. The activity involved 25 shallot farmers who actively participated in learning both the theoretical and technical aspects of producing certified Lokana shallot seed bulbs. Lokana shallot is one of the important local varieties with strong potential to support regional horticultural development. However, the success of shallot farming depends greatly on the quality of planting material. Many farmers still use bulbs from previous harvests without formal quality control.
