Makassar, Monday, August 18, 2025 – The Thematic Research Group (TRG) Maritime Governance and Sustainable Development Research Group of Universitas Hasanuddin held a virtual meeting via Google Meet with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia. The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Alwi, M.Si, Head of the TRG Maritime Governance and Sustainable Development Research Group of Unhas, together with external researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Hafizah Binti Mohamed Harith from UiTM.
The meeting, which was conducted in a spirit of collaboration, discussed several important agendas. UiTM shared its plan to establish a similar research group, under a scheme known as the Strategic Research Partnership (SRP), which aligns with the TRG concept that has already been developed by Unhas.
In addition, both parties agreed that the research topics to be undertaken will remain open and flexible, providing space for diverse ideas and contributions from the research teams. The process of selecting team members is still ongoing, with the hope of involving researchers from various disciplines.
Furthermore, the involvement of international partners is considered highly important. The presence of overseas collaborators is believed to enrich perspectives and enhance the quality of research outcomes. One concrete outcome of this discussion is a mutual understanding to propose a joint research collaboration scheme.
Through this meeting, Unhas and UiTM reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening global research networks based on collaboration, innovation, and tangible contributions to the advancement of knowledge.
