Makassar — Prof. Dr. Tuti Bahfiarti, S.Sos., M.Si., senior lecturer and lead researcher at the Media and Communication Thematic Research Group (TRG), Universitas Hasanuddin, was invited as a guest speaker for the Competency Development Program of the South Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulsel) held on Monday, 17 November 2025.
Prof. Tuti delivered a session titled “Communication Competence to Enhance Professionalism and Public Service in Police Duties.” The material was designed to strengthen the communication skills of police personnel, particularly in the context of public service, decision-making, and professional interactions in the field.
In her lecture, Prof. Tuti emphasized that communication is not merely a technical skill but a strategic competence that directly influences institutional image and operational effectiveness. She discussed core principles of interpersonal communication, the importance of empathy in public service, and communication approaches that help reduce conflict and build trust between officers and the community.
The session was highly interactive, with participants raising questions about communication challenges in critical situations, dynamics in community engagement, and strategies to improve public service through more human-centered and responsive communication practices.
Prof. Tuti’s involvement in this program highlights her ongoing contribution to enhancing communication capacity within public institutions and strengthening collaboration between academia and law enforcement in South Sulawesi.
