Strengthening Global Collaboration: DOFLER Lab Partners with OSPL Lab UTokyo

We are thrilled to announce the signing of an Implementation Agreement between the DOFLER Lab (Design and Optimization of Floating Structure Laboratory) at Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), Indonesia, and the OSPL Lab (Ocean Space Planning Laboratory) at the University of Tokyo, Japan. This landmark partnership marks a new chapter in academic collaboration between Japan and Indonesia, fostering innovation in offshore engineering and renewable energy.

About the Partnership

The signing ceremony took place at the Engineering Building 3, Hongo Campus, University of Tokyo, with key figures in attendance:

  • Prof. Hideyuki Suzuki from UTokyo
  • Fuad Mahfud Assidiq, representing the Faculty of Engineering Dean, Prof. Muhammad Isran Ramli

This collaboration aims to expand mutual academic activities through joint research projects, knowledge sharing, and student exchanges. The first initiative will focus on a joint article exploring short-term stochastic responses of modified SPAR floaters. Additionally, Japan will share its expertise in offshore wind technology to support advancements in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector.

Why This Matters

Offshore wind energy is a rapidly growing field with immense potential for sustainable development. By combining the strengths of both labs, we aim to:

  • Drive innovation in floating structure design and optimization.
  • Strengthen academic ties between Japan and Indonesia.
  • Build capacity for future researchers through student and staff exchanges.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing ocean engineering and addressing global energy challenges.

We believe collaboration is the key to unlocking groundbreaking solutions in offshore wind and ocean engineering. Whether you’re a researcher, industry expert, or student, we invite you to be part of this exciting journey. Together, let’s shape the future of renewable energy and create a lasting impact.
