Makassar, Indonesia — The Department of Government Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin (DGS FISIP UNHAS), successfully organized an international academic activity entitled “Research Ecosystem and Opportunities through Co-Governance between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.” This activity was designed as a strategic platform to enhance collaborative research, strengthen academic networks, and promote knowledge exchange between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
The primary objective of this activity was to foster a collaborative research ecosystem through a co-governance approach that integrates academia, government institutions, and international partners. By encouraging cross-border academic engagement, the program aimed to contribute to inclusive knowledge production and sustainable development in both countries.
The activity was conducted virtually via Zoom Meeting, allowing broader participation across geographical boundaries. Location: Makassar (host institution: Universitas Hasanuddin, conducted online). The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Tasrifin Tahara, M.Si, who serves as Education and Cultural Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Dili, provided valuable insights into the dynamics of governance, research collaboration, and policy development in Timor-Leste.
This activity reflects a strong commitment to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It explicitly supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and equitable access to knowledge through academic forums. It also contributes to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international collaboration between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. Furthermore, the activity aligns with SDG 1 (No Poverty) by emphasizing the role of research and policy innovation in addressing socio-economic challenges and improving community welfare.
The event was attended by a diverse academic audience, including students, lecturers, and practitioners. Participants: 80 participants. In terms of international collaboration, this activity involved key institutional partners. Mitra international: Indonesian Embassy in Dili (KBRI Dili), Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Student involvement played a significant role in enriching the discussion sessions, where participants actively engaged in exchanging ideas, raising critical questions, and exploring potential research collaborations.
