Climate change poses a significant threat to coastal areas worldwide, with rising temperatures causing sea-level rise, intensified storms, and extreme weather patterns that endanger coastal settlements, home to over 40% of the global population. These challenges are particularly severe in developing countries, where limited resources, rapid urbanization, and environmental degradation heighten vulnerabilities, leading to issues such as erosion, flooding, and ecosystem destruction. Local communities, heavily reliant on marine resources, often lack effective planning and strategies for resilience. To address these pressing issues, the Coastal Settlement Resilience Research Group focuses on strengthening community resilience through localized, sustainable solutions by integrating scientific research, technological innovation, and stakeholder collaboration to protect livelihoods and ecosystems.
